Comprehensive Care is a proven, effective treatment model used in healthcare. This sensitive, family-centered approach works extremely well in caring for people, not just diseases. At the Comprehensive Bleeding Disorders Center, comprehensive care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals with expertise in bleeding, clotting, and blood-related disorders. The team includes a hematologist, nurse coordinators, medical social worker, physical therapist, dentist, reimbursement specialist, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, research coordinator, outreach coordinator and marketing coordinator.
Comprehensive Care includes and emphasizes:
• prevention and overall healthy living,
• early diagnosis and intervention to prevent complications,
• assessment and treatment by a team of specialists,
• on-call medical personnel available after hours,
• education and training in self-care and health management,
• training for home and / or self infusions,
• psychosocial assessments, individual and family counseling,
• assistance with health insurance issues,
• coordination of care with other health providers,
• education of school nurses and daycare providers as needed,
• education for medical professionals on management of bleeding disorders,
• access to leading edge research studies
During one comprehensive clinic visit, patients are seen by the nurses, hematologist, physical therapist, dentist, medical social worker and others for an up-to-date assessment.
